1863 On December 2, 1863, the Union Pacific Railroad Company broke ground on the Missouri River Bottoms in Omaha, but construction did not begin until July 10, 1865 due to problems with funding. Five years after ground breaking, in December, 1868, the tracks would be completed across Wyoming.
