1814 Esther Hobart Morris was born on August 8, 1814. She was appointed justice of the peace for the South Pass District in 1870, becoming the first woman to hold a judicial office in the world. A statue of her stands as Wyoming’s representative in Statuary Hall in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.. A similar statue also stands in front of the Wyoming State Capitol.

1867 The first charter for the government of the City of Cheyenne was adopted.

1938 A significant day in history for Grand Teton and Grand Teton National Park; a Senate subcommittee convened hearings in Jackson regarding the expansion of Grand Teton National Park. There was strong local opposition to the plan. At the same time, according to the American Alpine Journal, "legendary climber Jack Durrance and partner Michael Davis were ascending Grand Teton's northwest ridge."
