1843 William Henry Jackson was born on April 4, 1843. He is best known as the first person to photograph Yellowstone. He also photographed many other areas of Wyoming. The largest collection of his works is housed at the Scotts Bluff National Monument in Nebraska.
1888 An article about the thriving town of Manville was published in Bill Barlow's Budget on April 4, 1888: "Manville proclaims herself as the center of the best farming and agricultural region in Wyoming." The town was named for H.S. Manville, manager of the Converse Cattle Company, who settled in the region in 1879.
