1808 On April 6, 1808, John Jacob Astor obtained a charter from the State of New York for the American Fur Company, a general title including all of his interests. He operated in the west under the name of the Pacific Fur Company. Read more about Wyoming's fur trade history here.
1887 The Cheyenne and Burlington Railroad Company was incorporated on April 6, 1887. It ran 29 miles of standard-gauge line from Cheyenne to the Colorado-Wyoming state line near Carpenter, Wyoming where it connected with the Colorado and Wyoming Railroad Company line. These two lines were sold to the Burlington Railway on February 15, 1908.
1899 The Grovont Post Office was established on April 6, 1899 in Uinta County prior to the formation of Teton County. Grovont was located on the Gros Ventre River.
1960 On April 6, 1960, a statue of Esther Hobart Morris, a symbol of woman suffrage, was unveiled in Statuary Hall at the Nation's Capitol. The statue is the work of sculptor Avard Fairbanks, fine arts consultant at the University of Utah.
