1900 Spring Valley Post Office was established on December 3, 1900 with Jacob Hempel as postmaster. The 1901-1902 Business Directory of Wyoming states Spring Valley was "a coal mining town in Uinta County, on branch of Union Pacific Railroad, 18 miles from Evanston. Fine illuminating oil is found near Spring Valley."

1913  "The official decision to route the 'Lincoln Highway' via Arlington and Elk Mountain on the historic 'Overland Trail' was again confirmed by eastern officials."

1924 The Cody Enterprise of December 3, 1924 included an article about the oil gusher near Lovell.
