1888 On February 6, 1888, an article titled "Great Fossil Forests: One of the Wonders of the Yellowstone National Park" was published in the Washington [D.C.] Evening Star. It was written by F.H. Knowlton, a botanist and paleontologist who wrote numerous articles on the fossil plants of Yellowstone and other areas.

1890 Vermillion Post Office was established on February 6, 1890. It was located on Vermillion Creek in Sweetwater County.
