1887 Shawnee Post Office in Converse County was established on February 7, 1887. Shawnee was on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, 26 miles east of Douglas. It was named for nearby Shawnee Creek, which according to records was named for the Shawnee Indian Tribe.
1890 Newcastle Post Office was established as New Castle Post Office on October 12, 1889 in Crook County prior to the formation of Weston County in 1890. Its name was changed to Newcastle on February 7, 1890.
