1882 On July 18, 1882, William Hale was appointed Governor of Wyoming Territory by United States President Chester Arthur. He took the oath of office on August 3, 1882. During his administration, he asked the Wyoming Legislative Assembly to extend Wyoming law into Yellowstone National Park in order "to protect and preserve the timber, game, fish, and natural objects and curiosities of the park."
