1889 On July 8, 1889, an election of delegates to Wyoming's Constitutional Convention was held. Forty-nine men gathered in Cheyenne during September, 1889 to write the Wyoming Constitution. The voters approved the document November 5, 1889, by a vote of 6,272 to 1,923. Read more about Wyoming's quest for statehood here.

1890 An earthquake occurred in Yellowstone National Park. According to newspaper accounts of the time, it caused an eruption of New Crater Geyser. New Crater Geyser is now known as Steamboat Geyser.

1971 Wyoming ratified the 26th Amendment, giving United States citizens who were 18 years of age or older the right to vote.
