1899 The train robbery at Wilcox occurred on June 2, 1899. It became one of the most noted train robberies of Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch's career. For more information about the robbery, click here.

1878 The Penney Historic District in Kemmerer was designated a National Historic Landmark. The J.C. Penney House, home of the department store's namesake, is also on the National Register of Historic Places and can be found in downtown Kemmerer.
