1804 On May 14, 1804, Lewis and Clark set out from the mouth of the River Dubois on the Corps of Discovery Expedition. Although they did not travel through Wyoming, their expedition resulted in one of the first maps to name some Wyoming places including Heart Mountain and the Stinking Water River.
