1943 Jackson Pollock's first solo exhibition opened at Peggy Guggenheim's gallery, Art of This Century, on November 9, 1943. Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912.
2000 The U.S. Board on Geographic Names officially approved the name Obsidian Pool for a backcountry feature in the Mud Volcano area on November 9, 2000. Also called Black Pool and Jim's Black Pool, it was named Obsidian Pool because of the obsidian sand in the pool.
