1877 Chief Joseph and his band of Nez Percé surrendered to General Oliver O. Howard on October 5, 1877. A number of places in Wyoming are named for Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce including Nez Perce Creek, Joseph Peak, and Nez Perce in the Grand Tetons. In 1988, Wyoming State Highway 296 in Park County was designated the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway.
1903 Monarch Post Office in Sheridan County was established on October 5, 1903.
1905 The October 5, 1905 Natrona County Tribune reported on the new stations on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
1906 The Riverton Post Office was established on October 5, 1906.
