1877 Elk Mountain Post Office was established on September 5, 1877. It was named for Elk Mountain, the peak at the north end of the Medicine Bow Range and a few miles southwest of the town.

1889 Bothwell Post Office was established on September 5, 1889. It was named for the Bothwell Brothers. Bothwell is known best for the Watson-Averell Lynching.
